I love Angelo. But I love that whole play. I was going to say that he is more human than Shakespeare's "villains" but then I realized that as an actor, I see reason behind ALL of their behaviors. None of them are just there to be evil. That must be why they are so compelling.
I guess where Angelo differs though, is that a production and actor can adjust the amount of sympathy the audience feels for him more than the other "villains" and can choose how likely he is to be redeemed at the end of the play. I mean, more than any other work, Measure for Measure is open to interpretation.
I'm totally going to do this meme. I figured I'd start it on the 1st.
