I just read a review of this production, and discovered that Ruth Wilson was playing Cordelia and the Fool - which was bad enough, as I really like Ruth Wilson and would love to see her Cordelia. But the idea that she is actually disguising herself as the Fool sounds fascinating (especially since Edgar and Cordelia are my favorite parts of Lear; creating that similarity between them could be quite evocative).
And I love your observation about how intimate that master-servant relationship is in this production. (I would have missed a chance to meet Hillary Clinton, too!)
