Hmm. Interesting. I think I do disagree with you, though; the vibe I get from canon is that there is genuine and lifelong loathing between Sirius and Snape (and probably was between James and Snape before James died), and I can't really see them doing anything with a letter like this other than pouncing on it with unmitigated glee.
