Armadillitos!

I went hiking yesterday and saw baby armadillos. There were three of them, and they were so cool. (Googling suggests that they are born in litters of four, so either one had died, or I missed it -- which is quite possible, as I only caught a glimpse of them as they crossed the trail.)

This is the first time I've seen actual, live armadillos, as opposed to road-killed ones, since I moved here. I need to go looking for them more often.

It's pretty cool to be living in a place where there are wild armadillos. :)

How lovely! Do they toddle along, or do they trundle?

Remarkably, they sort of hop when they get spooked, but most of the time they shuffle along rooting around for food. You can see one in action here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7whBO8h6So).

When I was probably 4-7 (it's a big range, but I don't really remember) my family went on a vacation to visit friends in Texas, and I saw armadillos. After we got back home, I would pretend to be one by hunching over on the toilet and bringing the lid down on to my back. I was rather an odd child (and there I am being silly in my icon, too).
