May. 25th, 2006 06:58 pmSo I made it to Ontario. The last bit of the epic train journey -- Winnipeg to Toronto -- took some thirty-two hours, which wasn't as bad as it sounds as I had two seats to myself and I'd finally figured out the best way to curl up so you can sleep comfortably, and where to put the pillow so the armrest isn't digging into the back of your head.
Winnipeg was nice. Pretty, but eerily quiet -- there are all these lovely turn-of-the-century buildings and nobody on the streets most of the time, at least when I was there. (Granted, it was a holiday weekend.) It feels a bit like the town went to sleep around 1910 and never woke up.
