Car battery seems to be defunct for unknown reasons. I hope someone in this apartment complex has jumper cables and has a clue how to use them, 'cos I sure don't.

Would really, really like this not to be happening NOW. (Also, the dealer hasn't sent me the paperwork I'm supposed to have to get it registered, and the thirty day tag expires tomorrow. It never stops, does it?)

I hate cars. We sold mine and I really wish it was possible never ever to get one again. I hope you're able to get it all dealt with without too many annoyances.

What I don't get is why the parts and service center at the nearest dealership is not open on Saturdays and Sundays, and closes at 5 p.m. the rest of the week. Precisely what clientele are they trying to attract, the unemployed?

You'd think they would want the people who can pay them their exorbitant rates!

Jumper primer: Positive (red+) to positive; negative to negative (or ground--a piece of thick steel).

Batteries can go bad from not being used or from age. Also, during the winter, they can be stressed when it's very cold, the car hasn't been driven for days and then is used for a short hop with a lot of power accessories turned on.

Well, considering that I've been driving it a fair bit and it's been 90+ degrees out for the last month, I think we can eliminate most of those possibilities. Good to know, though!

This is why they advise you to have someone drive your car around once a month or so if you're going out of town for an extended period, yes?

There are other issues from long-term inactivity, like tire flattening (sitting in one position too long), internal corrosion (fluids haven't circulated), and belts/seals drying out. Gasoline needs to be stabilized, too.

*Hugs* All I know what to say, really. I'm listening.

You have my very fresh empathy--I had to get my starter replaced just a couple days ago.
