an update and a rec
Jul. 5th, 2005 10:09 pmChapter 10 of Mordant is up at Schnoogle. It's pretty quiet and reflective as chapters go, although there is a passing mention of Sirius and James in black lace brassieres, for those who find that sort of thing exciting.
This will probably be the second-last update before HBP; I was hoping to get as far as Chapter 12, which features an attempted murder and Tonks in a Graphorn-skin body suit, but uploading has been slow lately and I figure nobody will be reading fic while they’re still reading HBP. So I will probably take a few weeks off after posting the next installment.
I’ve been reading the Time’s Riddle stories by Alan Sauer and Persephone Kore. (Start at the bottom of the page and work your way up.) It’s an AU that splits off from the canon timeline at the end of Chamber of Secrets, when Voldemort is replaced by his twelve-year-old self – who takes one look at his slit-eyed alter ego and decides he doesn’t want to be an evil overlord when he grows up. Most sensible readers would think dispatching the villain in such a simple and fortuitous way would remove most of the dramatic tension from the Potterverse, and ... well, they’d be right. This series is pure fun, a romp through the brighter and more whimsical side of JKR’s world, complete with Duck Tape, a mute sphinx, and a boa constrictor that eats bread rolls. And it’s got well-written Hagrid and Ginny, which is always a huge perk in my book.

Date: 2005-07-06 01:06 pm (UTC)Damn! Now I've got an image of the Marauders, all in black linger, doing a conga or a can-can. It's just *wrong!*
I might check out that rec at some point though. Cheers.
