Woo hoo, Chapter 11 of Mordant gets its twenty-five hours of canon-compliance. In which Moony and Padfoot go up on the roof and throw ferrets at the sky, and Rita Skeeter's interview with Harry is published in the Quibbler.

That said, I'll see y'all on the other side of HBP; I'm trying to avoid the spoilery posts, but they're starting to be too thick on the ground, and it's too easy to infer stuff from what people have said about spoilers. Plus, I still have 400 pages of OotP to re-read.

A final thought: Draco is a hateful little twit. But at the same time, I don't really believe that someone whose favorite pastime is doing cruel imitations of Hermione's (nonexistant) buckteeth is going to turn Death Eater in the next two years.

and it's too easy to infer stuff from what people have said about spoilers.

Tell me about it; I had a friend on my flist say something to the equivalent of "certain fans of a certain male character won't be happy, especially R/S shippers." (Nobody actually said THAT, but it was of the same flavor). They said JKR had said something similar, but while I'd seen what she said as a general statement, the way they implied it meant something big happens. So now I'm going to be reading it wondering what that is.

I'm just filtering, as I'll be offline more than usual anyway. But it means I won't be viewing a lot of people - just flist friends I know aren't going to put "a Professor most of us love is the HBP" and *then* post a cut. I'm already ruined, because that narrows it down to Remus and Dumbledore - and more likely Dumbledore, as Remus isn't a Professor anymore.

Too true, too true. I'm not a massive fan of Draco, or Redeemed!Draco stories. I certainly think that, given time, he COULD become something very nasty, but at this stage he's pretty... er... irrelivent. But yeah, I look forward to seeing what happens to him in this next book.

A fair point, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Judging by their performance in the Ministry, the Death Eaters are taking anyone these days.

The scene in the Department of Mysteries. One of the weakest parts of OotP. Why didn't Malfoy et al just AK everyone apart from Harry?

Not as easy as most people seem to think, perhaps? I suspect t hat early-learned hexes aren't all learned early because they're harmless; they're learned early because they're easy, and while the effects are reversible or trivial short-term, I regard Tarantallegra (for instance) as close kin to the enchantments in folklore that made people dance themselves to death. In other words, these are spells that impair someone quickly and easily, and then you figure out what to do with them.

Actually, I broached this subject to one of my professors and he compared it to martial arts, where certain styles/moves require you to start a move based on whether you really want to do harm, and with others (I believe he cited some judo throws) it's all the same at the beginning but the way you end it determines whether you actually cause injury.

Well, if the Ministry can detect a Hover Charm at the Dursleys, using an Unforgivable Curse on their own premises would surely trigger alarm spells right and left. (OK, Bellatrix uses Crucio, but Bellatrix is a total nut case; Lucius, presumably, is rational and just wants to carry out their mission without getting caught.)

read the new fic installment, loved it, loved the fact that Sirius though Remus was talkng to him.

Out of curiosity, do you read JKR's answers to FaQ polls? She jsut answered one that has an affect on one of your fanfics in a (IMHO) none harmful and humerous way.
